basics.
NAME: Kiyoung (νκΈ°μ©: Han Ki-Yong, Hanja meaning "") ALIASES: ??? AGE: 90+ GENDER: Male SPECIES: Nephil (Half-human, half-angel) WEIGHT: 65kg or 143lbs PLAYED BY: Oh Sehun VISUAL REFS: one, two, and also some bonuses somebody please stop me Kiyoung is 6' and fairly lean in build, light-skinned with dark brown eyes. He has been known to change his hair color pretty often, but tends to go back to black, which he has now. He's fairly fashion-conscious and fastidious and goes for a kind of classy grunge aesthetic, most often looking a little messy, but in a very purposeful, deliberate way. As an immortal he does not at all look his age, people tend to peg him around his mid to late twenties, which is basically when he seemed to stop physically aging. His PB is Oh Sehun. + INDEPENDENT. Self-reliant, pro-active and capable, but his independent streak is strong enough that it can be a bit of a fault. Kiyoung has pride in being able to support himself and fend for himself and this can sometimes make him reluctant to take help from others. He will not hesitate to take and use what he needs from other people by manipulating or otherwise coaxing them into it, but if help is just freely offered to him it does tend to chafe his pride. He is not incapable of swallowing it, but it is visibly something he Does Not Like to do. + PRACTICAL, RESOURCEFUL & ADAPTABLE. Kiyoung is generally grounded and practical, not too prone to getting caught up in flights of fancy, he sticks to what is realistic, achievable, and doable, and sets about doing it. He's sharp and good at thinking on his feet, and while he might not be the most happy about having to adjust to extremely unfamiliar circumstances, from experience he's learned how to be land feet first in most situations. + COMPASSIONATE. He might not outwardly appear so, but Kiyoung deeply cares about others and especially about anyone who manages to make it into his very limited circle. When given the choice he will pretty much always help people in need, provided they actually want his help and he isn't butting in on something that isn't any of his business. He might not be good at really trusting other people enough to be any kind of vulnerable with them, but he still does care and makes effort to understand others and help where possible. - MISTRUSTFUL AND DISTANT. Kiyoung is incredibly closed off and unwilling to be open and honest or any kind of vulnerable with pretty much anyone. He's learned to keep his emotions in check, mostly out of neccessity. He comes across as distant and detatched, and tends to come across as unapproachable, if not outright hostile. It's really a prickly shell surrounding his soft chewy center, but it is very, very prickly. - SARCASTIC AND BLUNT. On top of him already appearing distant and deatched, Kiyoung has an extremely dry sense of humor that definitely serves as a bit of a defense mechanism but in many ways is kind of just how he talks. He's sardonic and acerbic and can often come across as meaner than he really means to be, especially since he can be very blunt and direct in his speech. This is maybe even more true when it comes to people he cares deeply about -- while he will stay clear of things he knows are truly harmful, he won't hesitate to challenge or confront them about anything else. If it was someone he cared less about he might have thought it wasn't worth the energy. - CYNICAL. While he also just has a very dry sense of humor, he has the cynicism to match, too. While there is part of him that wants to think the best of people, he also just never really expects it to be true. Being able to have a decent empathetic sense of when people are lying just means that you start to realize just how much people lie, and that most people are selfish and self-serving. He finds this especially true of any supernatural creature, especially any of the Divine, whom Kiyoung alwyas takes special care to avoid at all costs. Mortals, he admits, can sometimes surprise him, but not that often. - MANIPULATIVE. Many of Kiyoung's abilities rely on how open someone actually is to him emotionally, for him to do his most powerful and effective work, someone needs to well and truly trust him. On top of his ability to sway and affect people's emotions, Kiyoung has learned to worm his way into someone and build their trust in him so that he can reach deeper into their minds for whatever purpose he might have. For his usual default hostility, when he's really working in this regard he can be surprisingly charming, even as he plays directly with a person's emotions. He won't really hesitate to use every tool in his arsenal if he feels he needs to. |

Assume all the CR you want really.
PHYSICAL CONTACT; Yes. He will not fully shrink away, though he does tend to avoid it, as his abilities are heightened with proximity and contact.
TELEPATHY & MENTAL BULLSHIT; Yes. As a supernatural being though he's likely to know some shit is going on, but he is only a relatively young half-angel and if your character is powerful enough this can be bypassed.
SEX & ROMANCE; Yes. Go for it, though romance is unlikely. Or at least, like. He'll be pretty resistant.
INJURY & DEATH; Yes. Please kick the shit out of him, he may be an immortal but his abilities aren't really fighting adjacent, and he's pretty mouthy. Killing him might be hard tho.

history
Nephilim, or half-angels, are considered divine abominations. Unable to inherit any true divinity due to the sin that created them, they are shunned and pitied by the Divine and untrusted by the Primordial forces of Hell. Kiyoung was largely raised alone by his mother, since his father had far, far too many responsibilities to tend to a human family, and he happened to be born at a particularly tumultuous time in his mother's home. They were able to successfully flee Korea, but never truly settled down anywhere, resulting in Kiyoung spending much of his younger life on the move.
His father was not entirely absent, and did make contact when he was able to, and while he never directly mistreated his son he also made a point of not interacting with him too much. Kiyoung's mother was never under the impression that his father was anything but an angel, and did not keep this supernatural heritage from Kiyoung's knowledge --he was keenly aware of his empathetic ability from a young age and it definitely played a part in keeping him and his mother safe. It wasn't until he was in his early twenties when he discovered something else, while confronting his father for the first and last time in his entire life, reaching out to grab his hand -- and experiencing a flash of memory. Kiyoung had not only inherited empathy from his angelic ancestry, but at least some amount of the power of absolution, a kind of memory access and manipulation, and while he would not understand it for years to come, the memory he'd just witnessed was that of his father doing the unthinkable: making a deal with a hellhound, in exchange for the safety of his mortal family.
Kiyoung would never see his father again, though he did eventually learn of his death -- he was already becoming involved with supernatural communities at the time, and the death of a seraph was a more than significant enough event to cause ripples in the underground. Grappling with his abilities on his own, he and his mother eventually managed to find some stability in Japan among other refugees and migrants, where he quietly started to find his own footing, deeply devoted to his aging still-mortal mother. Eventually, when Kiyoung was nearing fifty, they returned to Seoul, where Kiyoung did everything in his power to reunite his dying mother with her estranged remaining family until her death.
His mother's death was a significant blow. While he'd always been fiercely independent, it's more than a little different going from having at least one person constantly on your side to no one at all. Resourceful and adaptable, Kiyoung was able to find his footing again, and found his niche in the supernatural underground. Absolution was a rare, sought after ability, and he'd learned to control it enough to make use of it. Over time, he's eventually ended up owning a small small building in a low-income district, conveniently located near an area of magical flux, running a corner store that that sells various knick-knacks and tchotchkes and turning the upstairs into a humble but comfortable apartment. It mostly serves as a way for him to acquire, examine and otherwise keep track of magical trinkets that might be floating around, and he otherwise does not use it as a front for his less desirable work, preferring to keep those things as separate as possible.
About twenty years ago, Kiyoung's then relatively routine life was pretty rudely interrupted by a sudden fierce uptick in supernatural activity, thanks to a a new establishment built just two blocks down the road, owned by a pretty irritating -- if charming -- sin demon. Kiyoung was not at all pleased with this development at first, and even less pleased when said sin demon made attempts to be friendly. It was a long, long time in the making, but they have grown closer, and Kiyoung presently spends most of his time babysitting Saiph and wondering how a thousand year old sin demon can sometimes be such a damn child.
